The Alps!

Thurs 17th May
Stayed night last night in Chambre d'hote in St Croix. Raining again but climbed up Col de Cabre 1180 metres and ate sandwich in bar at top, when I came out it had stopped! Lovely downhill to Gap where I couldn't find camp site, so stayed at Formula 1 hotel.

Friday 18th May
Lovely weather at last. Easy cycling at first but then some hard climbing. I've never seen so many motor bikes - I think this must be the Mecca for "bikers"! The hard climb is worth it because the scenery in spectacular. Camped in Barcelonnette, which is a lovely town. Got up early and have just made a quick stop for breakfast before last steep climb to Col de Larche and Italia.
A note for John Daws and "the Bolt" - We ought to come here on our Motor bikes, it really is brilliant biking country. And thanks John for your comments, and sorry to have missed you at Rugby Club reunion. Just off to climb last 700+metres!

Mornin' Wol! It sounds brilliant! Cold and dull again today here and we're babysitting April tonight for the first time - I bet she will play us up! Good night at Huntingdon Hall last night with R and B - the Phil Beer band, really brilliant and the usual crap raffle! That's all for now - lots of luv, rosie and Magoo xx

yes good biking country but I know you'll prefer pedal power up those slopes.. impressive progress that puts the tour de france to shame. I suspect EPO (or red wine!)

Well impressed by your progress but hate camping in the rain even with all the right equipment.(unless you are with a big boy scout which is not your case - but it sounds like you will have visitors. Am just back from Vilnius- Lithuania, lvely city, but still lots of poverty especially amongst the pensioenrs. We were there for the last international meeting on social exclusion and older people. We present the results nationally tomorrow and in the European Parliament on the 25-26th June. Love from Liz

Sorry - I think I am supposed to encourage you- I do, I will, and Athens is a safe haven before Lesbos - though I doubt that is true for those on a bike! Glad it is for charity in really poor countries.
